Individual Therapy
Indivdual

Individual therapy involves a collaborative relationship between a client and a therapist working towards specific goals. Sessions are tailored to meet each individuals' needs and can range in frequency, topic, approach, and length of time. These factors will be mutually agreed upon and discussed throughout treatment.

My approach to therapy is generally open, curious, warm, and non-judgmental. I utilize a complementary blend of psychodynamic therapy as well as acceptance and commitment therapeutic techniques. Simply put, I find that exploring the past as well as the present often provides both insight and concrete skills to provide the best support. Psych eval
Psychological Evaluations

A psychological evaluation (or psychological assessment) is conducted to provide a clear picture of what someone is experiencing. When someone is having emotional, relational, behavioral, or social problems, it can be related to a number of complex stressors. Psychological assessments are conducted to identify the cause of symptoms, determine a correct diagnosis, and identify the proper course of treatment. The purpose of an evaluation is to untangle that complexity and fit it with the diagnostic criteria for a psychological condition. It can be particularly helpful in differentiating between similar disorders, multiple diagnoses, and complicated symptoms.

Evaluations may be completed for:

  • IQ and intelligence

  • Personality disorders

  • Posttraumatic stress disorder

  • Mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder)

  • Anxiety disorders (OCD, generalized anxiety)

  • Behavioral disorders (anger, conduct problems)

  • ADHD

  • Etc.

The Procedure for evaluations typically involves a clinical interview, in-person testing sessions (usually between 1 and 3 sessions lasting several hours), consultation, and review of relevant records. A comprehensive report is then written that includes background information, results from testing, diagnosis, and specific recommendations/resources tailored to the individual. A feedback session is also provided to review the findings in detail.

Since each evaluation is unique to the individual, please reach out for a consultation for your specific needs. I complete evaluations with individuals aged 16 and up.

Forensic
Forensic Evaluations

Forensic evaluations are similar to psychological evaluations, but are related to civil or criminal court. Individuals may be asked by a judge to complete an evaluation to address a concern or answer a specific question. Other times, an individual may wish to seek an evaluation on their own to present to the court to help their case.

Occasionally, there are specific psycho-legal questions that the judge would like to be addressed. These evaluations can include competency to stand trial, not guilty by reason of insanity, bonding, and questions regarding mitigation or sentencing. I am trained to conduct these types of evaluations, and offer expert testimony services as well.

I have specific training working with juvenile offenders. This includes de-certification evaluations.  I am happy to attend to clients who are incarcerated and complete the testing at detention facilities, if necessary. If you are an attorney, GAL, or case worker and would like more information, please reach out for a consultation.

Suitability
Suitability for Employment

Many occupations require specific psychological evaluations for employment purposes. I am able to complete a range or employment-based evaluations. This includes Act 235 evaluations for lethal weapons training, Act 120 for police officers, evaluations for correctional officers, etc. Please click here to learn more about online scheduling for these evaluations,

I also provide more complex and in-depth evaluations for HR purposes such as readiness to return to work, risk, promotion, etc. If you would like more information, please reach out for a consultation regarding these types of evaluations as they are highly specialized by occupation.

Teens
Teens

Adolescence is a time of change, growth, and challenges. For some teens, it can be a stressful period to navigate. Therapy can be a great place for your teen to learn coping skills, process changes, explore emerging identity, process emotions, and gain insight into themselves and their goals.

Therapy with adolescents often involves the parents and can help bridge the gaps that often form as your teen navigates increased independence and responsibility. I strive to respect your child's privacy and confidentiality while also ensuring the whole family can benefit from involvement in therapeutic services.

I work with teens aged 14 and up. In Pennsylvania, 14-year-olds are able to sign their own consents and make decisions regarding their mental health. Therapy is a great way to provide them with a safe space to support their growth.

Trauma
Trauma
ADHD

Healing from past experiences can feel like a daunting task. Often, when we experience trauma, we struggle to find a place to put the thoughts and feelings, which can be overwhelming. It can lead to feeling stuck or unable to move on. Ironically, trying to simply put the trauma from ones's mind can make it even more difficult to move past the experience.

Working with individuals who have experienced trauma is one of my specialties. By addressing the trauma head-on in treatment, we can process your past so you can experience the present and move on to embrace your future. You can heal from your trauma, and you don't need to do it alone.

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Questions regarding attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are becoming increasingly common. Medical professionals often utilize short screeners regarding attention concerns. However, these are often not adequate to determine the true underlying issues. There are many psychological disorders that lead to attention problems and may mimic the symptoms of ADHD. Proper diagnosis requires testing that addresses attention, focus, impulsivity, executive functioning, organization, etc. I offer evaluations to provide diagnostic clarity regarding ADHD, and information regarding other factors that may be impacting attention.
